If I’m paying for it; I better get my money’s worth. Not so with Ole Miss. Getting the downtime to study abroad, write a thesis, spend two years as a DM editorial staff member and complete two professional internships has left me feeling unfulfilled in the realm of school.
A select few classes have kicked my ass for the better. This is what I expected when I enrolled in a university. So, without further ado, here are the classes I’ve loved.
- Honors 101/102 with Mary Thurlkill – She cured my addiction to transitions (although, it’s still there when I turn away). I still attend her Maypole and belly dancing parties.
- Photojournalism with Robert Jordan – This class kicked my ass, but I’m a better photographer for it, and I know how to use my camera a little better. Read the rest of this entry »

The economy sucks apparently. I wouldn’t really know, as I’m a 20-something still in college and relatively incubated from financial crisis for a bit. But I do know how to save money, and I know I need to since it’s all going to hit the fan come graduation. You will see me at City Grocery from time to time, but you’ve got to save if you ever want to support that lifestyle on a journalist’s salary. Here are a few of my not-so-obvious money-saving tips:
1. Cheap haircuts – Trust me, the beauty school is not going to screw up your hair any more than your stylist. It’s better than a Wal Mart haircut, and you feel overly generous tipping (instead of insanely broke). Another plus is that you’re helping someone else.
