About me

I’m a University of Mississippi (Ole Miss – Go Rebs!) alumna with two bachelor’s degrees (journalism and French). I like to blog about journalism-related things going on in the world. Some of my other interests are rabbits, cooking/baking, sailing/swimming, reading, plants, poetry/fiction and French. I’ll probably blog about all of these things now and then.

This blog is called “Somewhere in Between” because it’s really weird being in that in between place. You’re not quite a member of society and not quite a member of the media, but you understand both worlds. You want to blame CNN and FOX news too, but a lot of the media are honest people like me just trying to get the word out in as unbiased a manner as possible and make a living.

I just finished in Oxford, where I wrote my honors thesis (Toward A Cross-Cultural Content Analysis of the 2008 American Presidential Election) and finished up my French studies (Medieval and Renaissance literature). Before that I spent four months of 2008 in Angers, France, where I learned a lot of French!

Today I’m an assistant editor at Military Officer magazine, a monthly publication of the Military Officers Association of America, located in Alexandria, Va. We lobby for wounded warrior health care, military family issues, etc. I don’t lobby though; I edit. I’m also a freelance writer (At Home Tennessee magazine, Oxford Town), and I’m currently translating a book from French to English.

I’ve worked at both Knoxnews.com and The Post and Courier (Charleston, S.C.) as an intern. In Oxford, Miss., I was a longtime Daily Mississippian reporter and editor. You probably know me as the girl who covered the Daniel Cummings/Robert Langley incident or maybe as the Friday movie previewer with hair that often printed green (don’t kid yourself – I reviewed movie trailers). I also covered a lot of public interest stuff (affordable housing, disabilities, disaster awareness). And (mabye) you remembered that year when The DM had far fewer copy mistakes? That was me.

I was born in Madison, Wis., but I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I went to Bay High up to 10th grade, when I got accepted to the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (magnet school) in Columbus, Miss. There, I found out I like writing a lot more than math and science, although I’m pretty good at all three.

Read me!

I finally solved the html issue, but removing it. We plan to update weekly or biweekly. Check out the newer look: in process of real change with enough students this year to do something.
